Chronic diseases are the major cause of death and disability in Malaysia, accounted for 71% of deaths and 69% of the total burden of disease.
This poses a significant challenge to the healthcare system and have far-reaching consequences for individuals, families and society. The prevalence of these diseases has been rising over the years and is expected to continue.
Common chronic illnesses prevalent in Malaysia include:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Hypertension
- Ischemic heart disease
- Chronic kidney disease
- Asthma
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Obesity
- Hyperlipidemia
- Gout
- Osteoarthritis
It is vital to address and manage a chronic disease as soon as possible, in order to prevent the progression of the disease and avoid further health complications.
Our physician will take an individualized approach to screen you for chronic diseases, provide tailored solutions and resources to address the modifiable risk factors before they cause damage to your health.
Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test that records the electrical activity of the heart. It is quick and painless test which can help to diagnose various heart conditions, including abnormal heart rhythms and coronary heart disease (heart attack and angina).
You may need an ECG if you have:
- Chest pain.
- Dizziness, light-headedness or confusion.
- Pounding, skipping or fluttering heartbeat.
- Fast pulse.
- Shortness of breath.
- Weakness or fatigue.
- Reduced ability to exercise.
If you have a family history of heart disease, you may need an electrocardiogram to screen for heart disease, even if there are no symptoms.
There are no risks involved in performing an ECG. Patients can resume normal activities immediately after the test.
The results of your ECG will help determine what treatment you need, if any.
The doctor will discuss the various treatments available to find the treatment most suitable for you.
A nebulizer is a small machine that creates a mist out of liquid medication, allowing for quicker and easier absorption of medication into the lungs.
Who needs a nebulizer?
Nebulizers are typically prescribed to people having the following lung disorders:
Sometimes, a doctor will prescribe a nebulizer for a child who has a respiratory infection, such as bronchiolitis.
Benefits of nebulizer therapy
- helps to relax the breathing muscles and permits air to flow more easily in and out of the lungs.
- helps to loosen mucous in the lungs.
- help to decrease and prevent wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and tightness in the chest.
- may also be used in susceptible individuals as a means of preventing breathing difficulties during exercise.
Risks in nebulization therapy
There are some side effects that may occur in certain patients who use nebulizers. The most common side effects of nebulizer treatment are rapid heartbeat, jitteriness and anxiety. Less frequent side effects may include headache, nausea, vomiting or throat irritation.
Health screening is a medical test used by a doctor to examine a patient’s illness and health condition before there are any signs or symptoms.
A basic general health screening involves:
- physical examination by doctor
- biophysical measurements (height, weight, BMI, visual acuity, etc.)
- blood and urine investigations
Why health screening is important?
Health screening helps to identify potential health issues & take pro-active steps towards well-being.
Early detection of a disease, followed by treatment or investigation can result in a better prognosis and lowers the risk of severe complications.
Who is eligible for health screening?
Anyone from 18 years and above are encouraged to do health screening. If you have a family history of non-communicable disease, you are encouraged to go for health screening at an even earlier age.
It is recommended to do a general health screening once a year.
Doppler ultrasound is a non-invasive test that can be used to measure the blood flow through your blood vessels. It works by bouncing high-frequency sound waves off red blood cells that are circulating in the bloodstream.
A Doppler ultrasound may help diagnose many conditions, including:
- Blood clots.
- Poorly functioning valves in your leg veins, which can cause blood or other fluids to pool in your legs, known as venous insufficiency.
- Heart valve defects and congenital heart disease.
- A blocked artery, called arterial occlusion.
- Decreased blood circulation into your legs, called peripheral artery disease.
- Bulging arteries, known as aneurysms.
- Narrowing of an artery in the neck, called carotid artery stenosis.
A Doppler ultrasound test also may help check for injuries to your arteries or to monitor certain treatments to your veins and arteries.
In general, there’s no preparation required for this test. If you are a smoker, the doctor may ask you to stop smoking for several hours before the test. Smoking causes the blood vessels to narrow, which can affect the results of the test.
The color doppler test is totally safe with no related risks.
Ear toilet is a minor ‘cleaning’ procedure that your surgeon may perform during your consultation, using a microscope or magnification headlight, and some form of cleaning device. It is performed on one or both of your ears.
Ear toilet is a very common procedure, and usually takes little more than 5 minutes.
WHY YOU NEED EAR TOILETING?
- To help the doctor completely evaluate your ear, sometimes wax or other debris has to be removed.
- To help eliminate causes reduced hearing, sometimes hard wax that is completely blocking off the ear canal has to be removed.
- To help resolve ear infection, infectious discharge, bacteria or fungal elements, and other debris needs repeated removal.
- To remove a foreign body in the ear canal.
The most common aspect of this part of the procedure is some minor discomfort on contact with the ear canal.
If a suction device is used, it can be moderately noisy, and may cause minor short-lived dizziness.
Once any significant debris is removed, you will often feel relief, and possibly an immediate increase in hearing.
Immunization is a global health and development success story, saving millions of lives every year. Vaccines reduce risks of getting a disease by working with your body’s natural defences to build protection. When you get a vaccine, your immune system responds.
Vaccinations and immunizations available at MCare Clinic :
- Typhoid vaccine
- Anti- tetanus
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Meningococcal vaccine (Umrah)
- Flu vaccines
- HPV vaccines
Urine Full Examination Microscopy Examination (UFEME) is a common urine test that is done to analyse urine samples provided by the patients.
Biochemical testing allows to detect the presence of blood, protein, glucose, ketones, and other substances in the urine. Healthcare providers often use the urine test to screen for or monitor certain health conditions. This includes:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Urinary tract infection
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
Depending on the outcome of the urine test results, further tests can be done to confirm a patient’s diagnosis, and therefore to provide better patient care.
An ultrasound scan, sometimes called a sonogram, is a procedure that uses high frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body. An ultrasound can be used to monitor an unborn baby, diagnose a condition, or guide the doctor during certain procedures. Ultrasound scans are safe and widely used. No special preparation is needed before an ultrasound scan is done. In most cases, there are no side effects and patients can go home soon after the scan is finished.
A urinary catheter is a flexible tube used to empty the bladder and collect urine in a drainage bag. The catheter is used when people have difficulty urinating naturally. It can also be used to empty the bladder before or after surgery and to help perform certain tests. The whole procedure takes about 5 to 10 minutes, with minimal discomfort upon insertion of catheter. Some patients may experience potential problems such as urinary tract infection and mild burning sensation after removal of catheter. With proper and sterile technique, the risks can be minimised.
